Europe – Champions League

Juventus – Atletico Madrid

Juventus would be quite unhappy with their away antics as an away goal could have really lifted theirs. The lack of away goals helps as a morale booster as they showed their dominance once more winning Udinese. A major concern for the visitors would be how difficult it is to beat the Old lady in Turin. Nevertheless, Diego Simeone very well knows how to handle such 2nd leg ties.

The Italian giants have won 3 other outings since their loss to Atletico, which sees them lead the Italian Serie A table with 18 points. At home, they have failed to lose a game since that defeat to Manchester United. They have won 9 of their last 10 matches in Turin. The home side has all but 3 of their home games this season with the last 4 saw 13 goals.

Atletico Madrid

The visitors aren’t exactly doing badly themselves as they secured 3 points against Leganes over the weekend. That win made it 5 wins in 5 games, as they now sit 7 points away from the La Liga league leaders.
Most of their troubles have come away from home. Atletico Madrid has lost just once away from home since the end Champions’ League group stages. However, a worrying stat is the fact that they have only managed 5 wins in their last eleven competitive games. With their 4 nil thrashing away at Dortmund, Juventus would be looking to take their chances.
It clearly won’t be an easy game to call, but I do see it going the way of the visitors. Though with both teams having reputable defence lines the goals should be very tight indeed.4

Home win or draw under 3.5 goals

Manchester City – Shalke04

Manchester City

Pep’s men found themselves on the back foot with two first-half penalties which saw them lose the first half by 2 goals to 1. However, an 85th-minute equalizer from a 10 man City team was topped off with an injury time goal. Raheem Sterling was the hero in that encounter now they head back to the Etihad to finish the mission.
The citizens did enjoy yet another comfortable win over the weekend. They have won 9 consecutive matches at home, scoring 39 goals in the process. One of such high scoring affairs would be their game against Chelsea.

The visitors make this trip on the back of a 4-2 loss to Werder Bremen over the weekend. This season, they have had mixed performances and find themselves just 4points above the relegation playoff spot. Manager of the side Domenico Tedesco still has his job because of their great running in the Champions League. Schalke have lost 5 of their last 6 Bundesliga encounters while in the champion’s league it’s just twice in 7 games.

The German side is an attacking bunch and has found the net in all but one of these outings. However, they will need more than one if they are to stand a chance to make it to the next round. Interestingly, City has conceded in 5 of their 7 Champions League encounters this campaign.
