Europe – Champions League

Bayern Munich – Liverpool

Over the weekend Bayern Munich thrashed Wokfsburg 6 nil and currently occupy the 1st position on the Bundesliga table. Borussia Dortmund are still very much in the running for the title as they sit in 2nd place with goal difference.

Bayern did start the season poorly but have really come to find their rhythm as the season wears off. Their first leg tie saw them play out a goalless draw with Liverpool. They have won 6 of their last 7 across all Competitions. At the Allianz arena it’s even gets better as they are yet to lose since October and are on a run of 7 matches without a loss.

These stats won’t be good news for Liverpool as their performances have been quite scrappy in recent weeks. Over the weekend they showed lapses in the defense line as they still managed to obtain 3points against Burnley. Although they won Kloop’s men were far from outstanding.

The Red’s have have won just 5 of their last 12 games across all competitions. Everyone knows they are a hard bunch to crack but away from home they haven’t been so comfortable. They have just one away win in their last 6 on the road, its even worse in the Champions League.
Liverpool lost all three of their group stage away games, failing to score against both Napoli and Red Star Belgrade in the process.

Bayern have 22 wins in their last 26 home games in the champions league and have only lost to Real Madrid twice in that period. Considering Liverpool’s away form, it’s likely the home side would be victorious.

Home win

Barcelona – Lyon

The first leg which took place in France saw Barcelona as heavy favorites to win the tie. However it’s was crystal clear that this Lyon side had been clearly underestimated. The French side gave as good account of themselves as they added that draw to a host of other remarkable results this season.

Barcelona headed over to France last month as heavy favourites against a Lyon side who many seemed to be underestimating. The hosts on the night had already clinched massive results against big teams, including a win at the Etihad in the Champions League group stages and bringing an end to PSG’s unbeaten Ligue 1 record.

The Catalan giants did clinch a 3-1 win against Rayo Vallecano as they fought from a goal down to grab a win. This follows a loss to Girona in mid week, that aside they are unbeaten in their last 11 games.

The French visitors on the other hand have not been in their best form for almost a month. Last weekend saw them drop points after taking a 2 goal lead against Strasbourg. Thus making it a total of 11points from a possible 21.

They have failed to secure wins in 3 away matches which sees them without an away win since February. Now they come up againsta Barça side that haven’t lost at the Camp Nou since November.
Lyon do have some remarkable results to their name which could be a real boost as they look to cause a major upset.

Both teams to score
