Being Active Whilst Watching Can Keep You Calm

Filed in BETTING ADVICE by on 1 month ago 0 Comments

It takes a lot of hard work to win at sports betting.  You have to keep up with all the news about the teams you want to bet on, the sports and leagues they play in, and many secondary issues like the weather.  After you’ve studied the teams in the match you’re betting on, you might want to watch the game on a live stream.  May we suggest that in order to relax whilst you watch the live stream, you play online casino games?

Strategy

There is no strategy to playing slots at Thunderbolt Online Casino or any other online casino – the spins are random and there are regulatory bodies who make sure of this.  They are there primarily for entertainment and that’s a good thing.  For players who want to think and analyze whilst they watch the matches they’ve bet on, there are also a few games that involve strategy.  In this short blog, we’ll talk about blackjack and discuss some basic blackjack strategy.

Blackjack Terminology

You need to understand the terms used in blackjack in order to be able to employ the best strategy.

Splitting

You can split when you have two identical cards.  In some games, you can split all ten-point cards; in others, the cards must be of the same rank.

In some games, you can split cards again if you get another identical card.

When you split cards, you play each hand separately.  You have to double your bet to cover the second hand.  So, when you split cards, you can win one hand and lose the other.  This is often what happens.

There are only a few card pairs that are worth splitting: Aces, and nines.  If you have two ten-point cards, you have a solid hand.  Some feel that this is a good chance to split and double their win but it’s far from a foregone conclusion.

Doubling Down

When you have 9-11 points from the first two cards, you can double down.  The hope is to get a high point card and win the hand for double your original bet.  When you double down, you get only one more card.

Insurance

If the dealer shows an ace, he might have blackjack.  Some games allow you to take insurance in which case you wouldn’t lose your bet if indeed the dealer has blackjack.

All statistical analyses have concluded that insurance is a bad bet.  You lose the insurance side of the bet if the dealer doesn’t have blackjack.

Surrender

In some blackjack variations, you can surrender your hand before taking cards and you lose only half your bet.  This is a sound play when you have 14-16 points and the dealer shows anything from7-Ace.

Soft and Hard Hands

A hand with an ace in which there are two point totals depending in how many points you ascribe to the ace is a soft hand.  All other hands are hard hands.  In some games, dealer hits on soft 17 because it can also be construed as 7 points.  This is bad for players from a statistical standpoint.

The Player Goes First

Almost all the strategy involved in blackjack derives from the fact that players go first.  If you bust, you lose, even if the dealer ends up with more points than you had when you busted.

Many players simply stand with 12 or more points.  This is poor strategy because it doesn’t take the dealer’s up card into account. If the dealer shows 7 or above and you stand with 12 points, there is a very good chance that you’ll lose the hand.  However, if the dealer shows 2-6, you should stand as soon as you get 12 or more points; you’ll have a good chance to win.

Counting Cards

Whether you pay blackjack online or at a land based casino, counting cards is really difficult.  A much better strategy is to play online and use a strategy card designed especially for the game you’re playing.  By using a strategy card, many players can actually even the odds with the house.  After that, it’s just a matter of luck.

Three Blackjack Variations from Uptown Aces

Pontoon is an original variant that led to the modern game of blackjack.  A hand with 21 points is called a pontoon and pays the same whether you got it on the deal or after.  In regular blackjack, you get an extra payout only for blackjack on the deal.

In Pontoon, you don’t see the dealer’s cards until after you’ve played so all of the strategy based on the dealer’s up card is not relevant.  Ties go to the dealer.

In European blackjack, the dealer gets only one card face up until it’s his turn to play.  The only difference is that the dealer can’t check his hole card for blackjack.

Classic blackjack is the game this blog has been discussing.  When you play classic blackjack, be sure to know if the game allows surrender which can favor the player under the right circumstances, allows multiple splits for repeated pairs, allows splitting with any two ten-point cards, and which pays 3-2 for all blackjacks.

It’s also a good idea to play a variation in which the dealer stands with soft 17.  Many statisticians have studied this variation and have concluded that it helps the players when the dealer stands with soft 17.

Blackjack and Sports

Blackjack is a perfect complement to sports betting.  It involves strategy; you can get an advantage through correct play which is easily achieved online by playing with a strategy card; and it is not unduly repetitions: each hand is different.

Many sport bettors have said that playing an active game like blackjack whilst they follow the sports action has calming effect on them.
