Hoffenheim vs Lyon

ANALYSIS AND MATCH PREVIEW

Hoffenheim held Shakhtar to a draw 2-2 in the group opener and then lost a home game against Manchester City 2-1. The host thus come into this game looking for their first win the Champions league. They’ve been in variable form in the Bundesliga, winning three of their last six games. Julian Nagelsmann’s men just got back to winning ways this weekend against Nurnberg(1-3) after a three match losing streak. Major concern for the host is their home form, as they are win-less in their last 4 home games, this includes defeats in the latest three by same 1-2 margin.

Lyon had a surprise start to their European campaign with an away win at Manchester City. In the domestic league, the visitors got back to winning ways this weekend with a 2-0 win over newly promoted Nimes, they lost 1 and drew 2 of the previous 3. Star player, Fekir picked up an ankle injury on his international duty and will not be playing tonight.

  • Hoffenheim saw both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals in all of their 11 competitive games so far this season.
  • 7 of Lyon’s last 8 games recorded over 2.5 goals
  •  4 of the last 5 Lyon’s  away games has seen at least 3 goals scored

Hoffenheim have been scoring goals but are also conceding at an alarming rate. With Lyon’s attacking options to face they have to tidy up at the back. Lyon will lack midfield strength with Fekir out with injury. But they still have options up front of the like of Dembele and Traore who can find the net from half-chances.

Both teams have scored in all 11 of Hoffenheim’s games this season with Lyon also seeing lots of goals as 25 have been scored in their last eight, which makes backing over 2.5 the way to go here
