England – Premier league

West Ham – Liverpool

The Hammers

It’s Monday night football and West Ham take on league leaders Liverpool, the two teams clash as the hammers look to end a 3 match losing run. The past couple of weeks have been pretty devastating for the home side as the lost consecutively. On the 19th of January they lost by 2 goals to Bournemouth after which came a reverse fixture in the FA Cup against Wimbledon and they fell 4-2 yet again. Tuesday night saw them lose to an impressive Wolverhampton side who wasted no time putting 3 goals in.

In this fixture they return to their London Stadium to save face as they play in their own backyard. West Ham have lost just once in their last 6 games in front of their home fans. They did defeat Arsenal on their own turf but generally their stats against the top guns isn’t so impressive . Chelsea got away with a draw, while Manchester United were defeated 3-1 a week later. Tottenham took maximum points when they visited and so did Manchester City as they thrashed West Ham 4 nil.

West Ham’s last 5 home matches have seen them acquire 10 points from a possible 15.

The Red’s

Liverpool’s last match Would raise concerns of the squads performance ahead of this fixture away from home one Monday night. The English premier league leaders had a generally feeble approach to their game against Leicester City at Anfield. This has been observed to be the case since the start of the year.

Jurgen Kloop’s men have recorded just 2 wins in 5 games and for intending champions thats a poor stat. Those victories came against Brighton and Crystal Palace and both weren’t convincing wins to say the least. The Reds have managed just 1 clean sheet in as many as 6 games. Their rock solid defence is slowly becoming a thing of the past in recent weeks. They come up against a West Ham side that has failed to score just twice in their last 12 games at home this season.

Head to Head

Now even though we expect the home side to give their visitors hell, and score at least a goal in the process. The history pendulum happens to be swinging in Liverpool’s favour, as it shows that they are favorites in this fixture. Liverpool have won each of their last 4 meetings with West Ham score 4 times in each of those fixtures.

Liverpool would be expected to win away from home, even though it’s not going to be an easy game. It’s expected that West Ham will find the back of the net thus making the both teams to score market valuable. Manchester City are still breathing down Liverpool’s neck hoping for the merseyside team to slip up. The 2 points gap between City and Liverpool makes this game a must win for the visitors as the champions league returns in a couple of weeks.

Kloop would be looking to put some distance between his team and Pep’s as fatigue may soon set in with big fixtures schedule.
