Europe – Champions league

Shalke – Manchester city

Schalke may not have had to deal with any of the European heavyweights in their Champions’ League group this season. However, it was by no means an easy task to qualify. They were drawn alongside a trio of respectable opponents in Porto, Galatasaray amd Lokomotiv. The visitors kept their hopes of a clean sweep of trophies alive at the weekend with a 4-1 win over the lowly Newport County in the FA Cup, meaning they have now won 12 of their last 13 games in all competitions. They are top of the Premier League, preparing for a League Cup final, and the favourites for both the Champions League and FA Cup.

Manchester city have grown from strength to strength in recent times and have shown their commitment to contest every title. Over the weekend they kept their hopes of lifting the FA Cup alive with a win over Newport County. With that result they have now won 12 of their last 13 games across all competitions. They certainly were trying to find their feet at the beginning of the campaign and it sure looks like they have.

Guardiola’s men have been firing from all cylinders, it’s difficult not to see them getting a few here.

Away over 1.5 goals

Atletico Madrid – Juventus

The home side returned to winning ways over the weekend as they beat Rayo vallecano in a tightly fought match by a single goal. That win helped keep the margin at the top at 7 points. On Wednesday, they face Italian giants Juventus. Diego Simeone will be looking to make it to this champion’s league final as it is set to stage at the Metropolitano.
Prior to that win over Rayo they had lost their last 2 matches.

The visitors also had an unlikely defeat as they fell to Young Boys but stayed at the helm of the group. And thanks to Manchester United’s inability to get maximum points off Valencia. Juventus have a 13 point gap at the top of the Serie A and would be throwing all their cards here and with the Champions league specialist now in their colors, they do have an added advantage.

Anybody to win and over 1.5 goals

Sevilla – Lazio

Sevilla did themselves a favor by winning the first leg of this tie, now they come in front of home fans to kill off the game. Winning in the Italian capital by a single goal wasn’t an easy result to get. They took advantage of Lazio’s poor performance and it should also be noted that the Andalusians could have gotten more than a goal in that encounter.

Lazio had a very poor game in the 1st leg of this tie. As luck seemed to be far from them as they struck and missed on a constant basis. They have lost each of their last 4 away matches to teams in the top eight of the table.

This game already seems poised in the favor of Sevilla. However the home team would be quite disappointed with themselves for not killing the game off. Looking at both teams performances it’s difficult not to see the home team nicking this one.

Home win or draw and under 3.5 goals
