England – FA Cup

Crystal Palace – Tottenham Hotspur

Palace takes on Tottenham in this 4th round tie of the English FA cup on Sunday. This game has a very interesting all premiership set up and is set to be very tight affair. Encounters between these two London sides have proven to be very close to call in the last 2 years. Factually, the results on head to head basis has a consistency to it.

In the last 6 meetings between the sides, the scoreline has been 1-0, with Spurs winning the last 5 meetings while Palace managed just 1 victory. That single win in the last 6 meetings by Palace coincidentally came in a 5th round Clash away from home.
It’s also worthy of noting that palace secured that win away from home. In recent times, the eagles have made winning on the road a habit.
Tottenham’s current list of absentees coupled with the head to head stats point you one thing. This fixture is shaping up to have a low scoring conclusion.

Tottenham is missing the services of their goal getters and this was evident in their last match as they fell to Chelsea in the carabao Cup.
Nevertheless, even with the attacks of both side being in top form in recent meetings this fixture has failed to produce goals.

Even with a full complement of attackers on show, Sunday’s game was always almost certain to be a low scoring affair however. Under 2.5 goals were scored in 10 of the last 12 meetings between Palace and Spurs.

PICK

under 2.5 goals

Chelsea – Sheffield Wednesday

During the week the Blues secured a place in the Final of the Carabao Cup, and are also looking to continue their progress in the FA cup. They host championship side Sheffield united. Chelsea had to do battle with Spurs although Pochettino’s side was injury ridden they held Sarri’s men full 90mins. A miss from the penalty spot from Dier help secure a place in the final .

This fixture should be less intense but it’s worth stating that the owls have only lost 1 in their last 8 matches. Their only downside is there lack of firepower up front even though their results have been generally positive. The visitors have secured 4 wins and 3 draws from their last 8 fixtures scoring 6 goals in the process. Their only defeat came against Hull city who happen to be in terrific form.

For the London team in Blue, Sundays context could bring forth more intrigue as Gonzalo Higuain is set to make his debut appearance. Sheffield have to cope with Sarri’s impeccable record at the Stamford Bridge, the host have lost just once in 19 fixtures across all competitions at home. And have lost just thrice at home since late 2017.

Sarri’s men have managed 7 clean sheets in 10 recent appearances at the bridge. And with the Owls have a relatively low firepower upfront they shouldn’t worry the home team much. Sarri would be relatively desperate to see his new signing hit the ground running
All things being equal Chelsea should progress into the next round comfortably.
