France – Ligue 1

AS Monaco – OGC Nice

This derby match is shaping up to be a very interesting affair as Henry takes on Vieira for the first time in his managerial career. The two premier league household names go head to head for the first time as managers. With both managers being great friends, let’s see who amongst them goes away with the bragging rights.

Henry’s men earned a well-deserved point against Marseille as the drew at the Velodrome. It took the final 20 minutes of the encounter for the men on popular white and red to find a way back into the game. That result alongside the arrival of former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas has improved the air around the squad. Their attacking isn’t as astonishing as it was last season but the look to be getting there. He made his presence felt as he played his debut match against Marseille and held onto the midfield as he is well renowned for.

Nice have won just one of their last seven encounters. However, that win came over the weekend and they have found scoring really difficult only managing to score 2 goals via penalty kicks. Mario Ballotelli also looks to have completely fallen out with Patrick Vieira and is set to leave the club. On a lighter note, their defense has been quite impressive with 7 cleans sheets in 10 matches.
Monaco sure do look like they could get a result here and with Nice finding scoring difficult, it should be a low scoring affair.

Italy – Super Cup

Juventus – Ac milan

Two of serie A’s biggest clubs take off to the middle east where the final of the Italian Super Cup is been hosted. Juventus look to secure the first of four trophies which they would be gunning for, even though this trophy looks to be of more significance to Milan.

The old lady of Italian football has been dominant on the domestic front, winning four consecutive league titles while getting the double twice. They still look like they can emulate Inter’s treble win but will the Super cup be part of it? Last edition of the super cup final saw Ac milan lose by 4 goals but this looks to be a much tighter affair. Milan had to hold on till extra time to get 2 goals past Sampdoria away from home to make it to this final. They certainly are the underdogs but let’s see how they respond after that extra 30minutes of football.

On the head to head scale, Milan can’t reckon with Juventus, as they have lost the last 6 encounters against the old lady. They have also lost to the top three this season which includes a 2 nil home loss to Juve. It’s difficult to see them holding their own here given how poorly they have fared against top oppositions. Juve have also managed to score at least twice in each of their last six meetings.
