Welcome to match day four of the UEFA champions league. Fixtures in this post include Liverpool vs Red star Belgrade as the last year champions league finalist look to come back from that defeat to Napoli on match day 2. Barcelona also take on Inter Milan in one of the interesting matches lined up while Tottenham take on PSV. While in Germany Borussia Dortmund host Europa League winners Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool – Red Star Belgrade

Liverpool come into this game with their minds bent on making a statement after that disappointing loss to Napoli. In game 1 they did defeat PSG by 3 goals to 2 a in thrilling encounter but couldn’t deliver the goods on day 2. That loss was accompanied by draws to both Manchester City and Chelsea during which they also got knocked out of the league cup by the former. The four match winless streak however came to and end over the weekend as they best Huddersfield away from home by a lone goal.

Red star Belgrade are back to reclaim their yester years of champions league domination but after their visit to the French capital they surely wont be getting too far in this competition. PSG totally dominated the game and could easily had gotten double figures in terms of number of goals. On the domestic scene the visitors have been impressive but that standard is nothing compared to what they have to face in the champions league against the likes of Liverpool and PSG. At home they seem to be able to hold their own as they held Napoli to a draw can they get a point away from home? Your guess is as good as mine…

Over 3.5 goals

Barcelona – Inter Milan

The Catalan giants host a resurgent Inter Milan side as the two teams look to trample on one another to secure the top spot in group B. As it stands right now both teams are level on points with 6 points from the first two outings each.

The host would be coming into this clash without talisman Lionel Messi but would still be considered as favourites. They seem to have ended a poor run of form as they now have 2 wins and a draw from 3 seemingly tough oppositions (sevilla, Valencia and Tottenham). Barcelona have kept only one clean sheet in their last 9 matches and it is most likely the Italians could get a goal here with the help of their captain Icardi.

For the Milan side with the famous blue and black stripe, their return to the champions league has been so far great. They ride into this game on the back of 7 wins from 7 matches in all competitions, and this impressive run started against Tottenham Hotspur. Just this Sunday, they recorded a last minute win over neighbours Ac Milan on the 92nd minute with star man Icardi doing the damage. He now has 5 goals in his last 5 matches and with Messi now out injured , this man could steal the show.

Both teams to score

PSV – Tottenham

In terms of domestic football , PSV are having a fairy tale of a season with 9 wins in 9 matches. They sit in 1st position with 5points adrift Ajax as they look to win another title. On the European stage however Dutch football is no where near what it used to be. This is evident in their 4-0 and 2-0 losses to Barcelona and Inter Milan consecutively. Against the former they were however unfortunate as they lost by a very narrow margin. After taking the lead in first half, they were able to keep their Italian opponents out for much longer as once again Mauro Icardi was the distinguishing factor.

The north London outfit recorded another win over West ham as they looked rather average in that encounter. Pocchettino’s side have been goal shy as they have recorded 2 wins with similar score lines of 1-0. They carried same attitude when they played against inter Milan as they led by a goal for most of the game only to concede 2 goals in the ending stages of that encounter. Against Barcelona they did their best to stay in the game but eventually fell by 4 goals to 2 to the Spanish giants who had Messi doing most of the damage. So far Tottenham haven’t failed to score in their games, but they have also been poor at the back conceding 15 goals in 12matches. For this game both the host and visitors Tottenham would be looking to getting their first points in this group.

Away win or draw and over 1.5 goals

Borussia Dortmund – Atletico Madrid

Both teams already look well placed to make it to the next round of the competition with the fixture and the reverse leg being the only factor that could most likely decide who finishes in 1st place. These two have been finalist of the competition in just about a decade ago and this clash is surely one set to have fireworks in it. Dortmund would be impressed with their progress in the competition so far, they are also doing very well on the domestic scene.

Rivals Bayern haven’t been a top notch side so far and Dortmund are hoping to make this season theirs as they sit at the top of the Bundesliga with 3 points adrift of Bayern. Winning their first two matches against Monaco and Brugge could be a real boost alongside their home support.

The visitors would be looking to make it to another European competition final as they would also be hosting the final of this competition in 2019. So far they are cruising just fine unlike their last champions league campaign where they had to drop and eventually ended up winning the Europa league title. Fellow group members Monaco aren’t providing much of a contest and this has helped Atletico win away for the first time in their last 6 champions league away fixtures. With both teams level on points neither would like to throw caution to the wind hence a low scoring affair is expected.
