Match preview

Liverpool ‘s Manchester City predictions for Sunday’s premier league clash at Anfield. Liverpool host City in a tie that could very well be a determining factor for this seasons premier league title race. For more insights on the match, read on.

Liverpool

The two sides come into this game with a seven match unbeaten run-in the premier league. Sitting in the first two spots with 19points a piece but with City ahead on goal difference. This match might just be what would separate the pair.

Liverpool’s manager would be clearly unhappy with the turnout of events in the past weeks. Firstly losing to Chelsea in the caravan cup, before managing to pull a draw at Stamford Bridge. Next up was the Champions League visit to Napoli where they lost by a lone goal.

Manchester City

Just like their host, the citizens have also had a couple of setbacks themselves. They dropped points for the first time this season to an impressive wolves side at the end of August. They also surprisingly lost at home to Lyon on match day one of the UEFA Champions League. Although they did win against Hoffenheim during the week, it wasn’t a convincing display.

Coming into this game, both teams are well aware of the what’s at stake for this game. They have both proven to be the two strongest contenders for the title so far. Chelsea who are closing following would be hoping both teams drop more points. Both teams would give no room for mistakes, but with both defenses looking exposed at the back at different times this season, there should be chances upon chances in this game.

Manchester City however are the ones with a point to prove, they come into this game on a four match winning streak this season but their record against Liverpool is nothing but appalling. In their last six meetings, they have won just once and lost three matches against Liverpool in 2018 alone.

Head to Head

  • Man city last got a victory at Anfield way back in 2003, ever since Liverpool have had the edge in this encounter with 12 wins from 17 matches. All of Guardiola’s three visits have ended in losses with Liverpool scoring eight times in those three games.
  • Liverpool have won four, drawn one and lost one of the last six meetings against the citizens. The host are yet to lose to Manchester City at Anfield in almost 15 years (2003), winning 12 and drawing 5 of the 17 matches between them.

Key stats

  • Both teams are unbeaten in seven matches this season. This would be the latest meeting between two unbeaten sides in the competition. Last of such meeting was Newcastle and Manchester City in 2011-2012 in game week 12 of that season.
  • Liverpool have kept a clean sheet in each of their last eight games at Anfield.
Manchester City have lost only one of their last 25 premier league away matches and that was against Liverpool last season.
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in 24 home games, the longest current run in the competition.
The host haven’t lost any of their last 13 premier league home games against the ‘big six’. (Winning 6 and drawing)
