The team of Sunderland got relegated twice in the last two seasons and they dropped to the third level of the English league pyramid. However, they are looking forward to bouncing back in the current campaign and they are sitting on the fourth spot of the League One.
They haven’t suffered a defeat yet and they are just two points behind Peterborough United and Portsmouth. The hosts are pretty tight in the back, while their forwards are producing fair amount of goals.
Stoke U21 have been participating in the Premier League U21 where they’ve snatched eight place last time. They’ve been involved in a lot of low scoring matches, but they haven’t booked too many draws. Their defensive work hasn’t been too good as they managed to get back home with a win just three times.
They will see this competition as a means to earn priceless experience of playing at the senior level and Glyn Hodges’ side could only benefit from these occasions.
Although it is very likely that Sunderland will come out with a combined line-up, they are still favourites in front of their crowd and they should be able to secure the victory here.
