Dundalk will be hunting for their third consecutive wins tonight since their disappointing 3-0 defeat against League leader Cork city and they they can’t hope for a better opponent than the bottom of the table Galway.
Last year Dundalk enjoyed an incredible season as they romped home to the League of Ireland Premier Division title, all the while maintaining a sensation run in Europe. They were just a match away from the Champions League group stages, which would have been a huge feat considering the club of their size and whilst they fell at that hurdle their participation in the Europa League group stages is still a huge feat for them.
This season, due to their slow start they found themselves trailing the league leader Cork City by a massive 18 points which implies they’ve practically conceded the league to their arch rival. And all they can do for now is holding on to their second place position. If there recent result is anything to go by, they should be in for another comfortable night.
Galway United have played nine games on the road so far, won none and lost four, having conceded 15 goals and scoring just 7. They lost 2-1 at Bray on Friday to make it five games without a win, 4 of which ended in defeat.
With Dundalk scoring 3 or more goals in 63% of their last 8 matches and considering how dreadful Galway united have been this season, a Dundalk win and over 2.5 goals is a safe pick.
