Not many people playing pools know how it started, Littlewoods, have for several years dominated the football pools based in Liverpool and founded by John Moore’s.
However, the game was invented by a man named John Jervis Bernard from Birmingham.
Bernard realized that most of his friends had passion for both football and placing bets. Football was still very much in the embryonic stage 100 years ago, the only betting that was legal was horse racing.
Barnard envisaged he could make money by coming up the idea of betting on the outcome of football matches, in which punters share 90% of the pool, while he takes 10%/ for administration and profits.
He approached John Moore’s, who bought the idea, because he saw the potential and took a coupon back to Manchester, whereby Colin Askham and Bill Hughes each invested £50 to get the scheme of the ground, they acquired printing press and rented a small Office in Church street in Liverpool, they printed 4000 coupons and distributed them outside Manchester United Old Trafford on Saturday in the winter of 1923, and the football pool was born.
To their consternation, only 35 of the 4000 coupons were returned and the income was four pound, seven shillings and six pence. The men doubled the coupons and printed 10000, and took them to Hull, only 10 coupons returned, you can imaging how!they felt.
The project continued to lose money up to mid 1924-25, the partners considered whether it was time to abdicate, before it truly began. They had invested £250 into the venture, Hughes and Askham felt it was time pull out, to their amazement John Moore’s offered to refund them each £200 covering their investment, which effectively divested them, and John Moore’s took over their shares.
Things might have been different but for John Moore’s wife telling her!husband ‘I WOULD RATHER BE MARRIED TO A MAN HAUNTED BY FAILURE RATHER THAN ONE HAUNTED BY REGRET’
Barnard was unsuccessful in Birmingham,Hughes and Askham accepted John Moore’s buyout.
The two men regretted their action, when Littlewoods pools eventually took off successfully, and John Moore’s became a millionaire, to his wife admiration that he followed her advice not to abandon the project, today the likes of Bet9ja are making millions not knowing how it all came to be.
Now we know the origin of pools and the fact that it is fixed is no longer in doubtful, but we need is to raise our skills.

Secondly u had succeed in two weeks of bankers played, how will u claimed ur reward with admin this week when u had decided to go to nap market, even when u put one in banker room people won’t trust it. Think better. How many weeks ago u have gotten 3 weeks straight of banker delivery? Going to nap market st this time is like writing to failure again.
