Barcelona have, on the other hand, seen a goalless draw at La Liga’s rock-bottomed rivals as playing with a rotated lineup proved costly – with Atleti now sitting nine points behind them once again. Ernesto Valverde has rested his stars, though, and we feel they’ll be very motivated to capitalize on the English rivals’ defensive woes away from home. At home, the Catalan giants have won their last five games in all competition and most these win have been with relative ease. They thrashed Lyon 5-1 after a goalless draw in France in the last 16, so even with Manchester United’s numerous Champions League heroics away from home this season, they are unlikely to pull off another miracle here.
Manchester United on the other hand, returned to the winning ways with a narrow 2-1 win over West Ham on Saturday and they now travel to Barcelona looking to build on such team spirits, desperate to put the first-leg performance behind them after not making a single shot on goal. Red Devils have seen troubles on the road, though, and three consecutive losses since mid-March. They have been scoring goals but still saw Wolves knock them out of FA Cup and snatch all three Premier League points along the way, which will be all the more worrying for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
In contrast to the first leg, we should see goals here, 16 of Barcelona’s last 20 home games in the Champions League have seen at least three goals scored, also Manchester United’s last four away games in the competition has gone the same way. Barcelona display at Old Trafford showed the gulf in qualities between these two sides, we should see even more dominant performance from Messi and Co at the Nou Camp. Considering all these, backing the host to win and over 1.5 goals looks like a decent option here.
