Champions League Match day 5 : Match Preview

Champions league match day 5 match preview as teams play the reverse fixtures of their match day one opponents. Read on for tips and predictions.

MANCHESTER UNITED – YOUNG BOYS

The red devils find themselves with hopes of qualifying after that shock away win to Juventus. That gives them a life line coming into this game as they look to qualify. Currently Manchester united sits in second position with 2points away from both the top and third spot. With Juventus taking on Valencia a win for either side would improve Manchester’s chance of qualifying.

The visitors haven’t been threatening opponents themselves, yes they are dominating the Swiss league but in continental football their results have been poor. They have now lost 3 of their last 4 group games conceding 10 goals in the process.

PICK

Home win

LYON – MANCHESTER CITY

Lyon’s win away at the Etihad was one of the shock results recorded on match day 1. This time they welcome a much stronger City side and the bookies have stacked the odds against them. It’s also worthy of mention that Guardiola is back on the sidelines. Lyon have seen over 2.5 goals in 10 of their last 14 games including all 4 of their champions league fixtures.

The visitors would be looking to take back their pound of flesh from Lyon as that defeat against the French team happens to be their only defeat so far. Since that game they have won 12 of 13 outings including a 4-0 thrashing of west ham recently.

Man city have scored 59 goals in 20 games and against a Lyon side who also love scoring it should be an end to end affair.

PICK

OVER 2.5 goals

ROMA – REAL MADRID

Roma have won 6 of their last seven fixtures at home, some of their notable wins include Barcelona, Chelsea and Liverpool. They have also managed consecutive wins against Cska Moscow which has increased their chances of qualifying. Roma’s display has been quite inconsistent as a squad rotation ahead of this fixture led to a 1 nil loss at Udinese over the weekend.

The Madrid giants have a really questionable away record this season. Since Solari took over they were able to record 3 straight away victories. However, those were against lowly place sides apart from the Celta Vigo win. They were never really convincing and this trip could definitely do more damage.

PICK

Home multi goals (1-3)

JUVENTUS – VALENCIA

The host would be looking to cut out a clear path to the round of 16. They have been the clear favorites of the Serie A and would like to step it up a notch with champions league success. A loss of concentration in the ending stages of the game against United lead to a 2-1 defeat. This only means Juventus can’t allow any more slip up if they aim on winning the group.

Valencia have slim chances of making it to the next round as they drew with group underdogs Young boys fc. That drew has left them with 2 points adrift of united and a defeat here could end their chances of qualifying for the next round.
With Juventus attacking talent and a great defense line, we expect things to swing in the favor of the Italian Giants.

PICK

Home win
