ANALYSIS AND MATCH PREVIEW
Salzburg failed at the very last hurdle to reach the Champions League group stage once again as they were eliminated by Red Star Belgrade in the play-offs round on the away goal rule. But they opened the Europa League group stage with a victory away to RB Leipzig 2:3 two weeks ago. As for the domestic league, Salzburg comes from a 1:4 victory away from home against AC Wolfsberger last Saturday afternoon. This way they continued to dominate the league with nine victories out of nine rounds and are at the top of the table with seven points more than closest followers from St Polten and LASK Linz.
Celtic, on the other side, also had a huge target to reach the Champions League group stage but suffered exclusion already in the third round to Greek side AEK Athens. They were better than the Greek opponent but failed to make their chances count this time. In the Europa League opening game, the side managed to get a narrow 1:0 victory against Rosenborg two weeks ago.
They come from a 1:0 narrow home victory against Aberdeen last Saturday afternoon in the Premiership. They are now sharing the fourth position with six points less than leaders Hearts, entering the season bit poorer than what we are used to seeing from them.
Unlike the previous seasons, Celtic doesn’t seem to be that concrete in the offense and often struggle to find a goal – something that has been easy for the Austrians so far.
