2018/19 English Premier League Outright Bet Predictions

English Premier League 2018/19 Outright Betting Tips and Predictions

Moving on from the world cup, we start casting our outright bet for the 2018/2019 English premier league season. Some may say “it’s still quite early”. But if you have been in betting long enough, you know this is the best time to place the outright bets. It is highly unlikely that managers of big teams would be making further changes to their teams. Although millions are being put out to ensure the transfer of players as they look to improve.

The implication of this is that bookies would be offering better value on bets placed around this period. It is still difficult to not see Manchester city as favourites, but right now they priced at 1.55 on most bet sites. But that’s not enough value to go by.

The only downside to the 2017/2018 winners is the participation of their players at the world cup. They had a total of 16 players at the just concluded Russia 2018, more than any other team. This could lead to a resulting low performance in the early weeks of the season. This is also the same scenario with Tottenham who happened who also happened to have the most players participating in the semi-finals.

To the main reason for this article, below are the five bets to stake on in the new season:

Liverpool to Win the English Premier League

If you are trying to consider another team winning the title, the Merseyside reds appear to be the obvious choice. At odds of 4.45, this is a valued bet considering their last season exploits. Klopp’s attacking style of play saw his team get the third best ratings on expected goals in 2017/2018.
The reds should get off on a flying not. This is due to the fact that only one of their first team players made it to the semi-final stage or the world cup (Jordan Henderson). With Fabinho and Keita as replacements, they should have enough firepower to stay in contention for the title.

Relegated Team: Bournemouth

Now let’s consider the bottom of the league. Cardiff seems like the most probable team to be in the relegation zone at the end of the season. They have odds of 1.7 by some bookies for this option. Using lasting season’s performance as a yardstick, Huddersfield are also being priced at 2.2 while Fulham are priced at 2.7
Nevertheless, considering value we would have to turn to Bournemouth as they had the third worst expected goals record for teams who manage to stay in the EPL. The cherries have only included one championship player to their catalogue as at the time of composing this article. The bookies are pricing them at 5.75.

Burnley also finds themselves in this bracket even after finishing seventh last time out. With them contending at the Europa league football now, their number of expected goals could even take a further plunge. Just like the cherries, they seem unwilling to make an addition to their squad as of this moment.

Gabriel Jesus to win the golden boot

In the previous season, we saw Harry Kane and Mohammed Salah battle closely until the last match day to decide this category. For the golden boot this season I think it’s time to look elsewhere, Gabriel Jesus has 14.5 odds to win it, this offers a lot of value.

With Kuin Aguero now in his 30’s, this might just be the season where Jesus gets a lot of chance to score some amazing goals. For the Brazilian, winning this category will be solely dependent on how much match time he is afforded. Injury has always been a setback for the city forward. But considering that he had the highest non-penalty expected goals on a 90 minutes scale he does look like a great pick.

Leicester to win on opening weekend against Manchester United

Contrary to how most people think, it is never too early to place a bet for the first weekend of the new season. With this, a mind a fixture that stands out would be the Foxes game against the red devils at Old Trafford. The underdogs for this game is Leicester city and the bookies are offering an impressive 8.2 odds to take maximum points. On a scale of expected goals, the foxes are only four points less when compared to Manchester United. It is also worthy of mentioning that the just concluded world cup had key players like Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba competing up to its final stages.
The effect of the sale of Riyad Mahrez cannot be overemphasized but at such a price, that offer would be too good to ignore.

Cardiff winning their first game of the EPL

The bluebirds would be looking to make a statement after being elevated to the EPL. The odds for a Cardiff win at Bournemouth is 4.20. In the 2017/2018 championship season, only Fulham and Wolves recorded more away wins when they played away. On the other hand, Bournemouth is amongst the five teams who lost the most games at home in the previous season. Three teams from the five have already out of the English premier league.

We can also recall that Huddersfield, a newly promoted side in the 2017/2018 season beat crystal palace on an opening day. Cardiff could very easily follow this trend when they square up at the Vitality stadium.

In previous seasons some of the notable upsets on matchday one include;

  • Champions of 2017/2018, Chelsea who lost to Burnley on the first day.
  • Leicester city also found themselves winning with seven minutes left to play at the Emirates,
  • After winning the 2015/2016 season, champions Leicester failed to kick off the season that followed on a good note as they dropped points to newly promoted side hull city.

NOTE:
For the highest goal scorer for the EPL, I think it is worth mentioning that Arsenal striker Pierre Aubameyang (9.5) would be worth picking. The former Dortmund man joined the north London outfit in the January transfer window and became their highest goal scorer for the rest of the season.
As we countdown to the kickoff of the EPL these bets might just be the heralding point of a very successful betting season.
