POLAND VS COLOMBIA – WORLD CUP MATCH REVIEW
POLAND
The world cup was always going to be a competitive zone, and Poland vs Colombia is always going to an interesting fixture. The Poland team have always known this right from the very day those draws were announced. And have gotten their own share of well matched up opponents, a lot of punters were still routing for them to be the favorites.
After playing their first game they find themselves trailing, as they lost to Senegal 2-1. With the way they played they don’t leave much to hope as the tournament progresses.
Late on in the first half Thiago Cionek deflected the ball into his own goal post to summarize their game. Much later Gregorz Krychowiak did make another mistake with an error of a back pass which fell to Mbaye Niang who punished them accordingly.
Krychowiak did pull back a goal as he tried to make up for his blunder. The whole team had a very bad day in terms of performance.
COLOMBIA
They also found themselves at the loosing end as their full time scoreline ended in a 2-1 defeat quite understandably. The referee had no choice but to point to the spot early on in this encounter as Carlos Sanchez handed the ball. Shinji Kigawa stepped up and converted the resulting penalty.
Kudos to the South Americans who managed to put up a good fight despite being one man down. They were pretty much in control and deservedly got back on level terms.
Juan Fernando Quintero was the man who pulled them level with a brilliant free kick. As fate would have it, Japanese player Osako struck again to see the Asians get back in front. Colombia’s performance wasn’t bad but there were lessons learnt.
Playing without Sanchez would be a minus but on the positive, they would have 11on the field of play. Another addition for the team would be the inclusion of Bayern Munich’s man Jamez Rodriguez.
He starts in this game after being excluded in the last game due a calf injury. With 21 goals in 64 games, 6 of which came during the qualifiers. After his exploits 4years ago, we won’t be surprised if he comes along with his scoring boots.
EXPECTATIONS
Trends from as far back as 2016 show that the last eleven competitive matches of the poles have seen a minimum of three goals.
Colombia on the other hand have seen a minimum of three goals also in four of their last six matches.
We do expect goals in this encounter but in the end it all boils down to who wants it more.
Both teams to have the ability to deny each other a clean sheet, but on paper Colombia should go all the way.
HEAD TO HEAD
The two nations have only met in 2006 with Colombia winning that encounter 2-1. This would be their first competitive meeting.
