ANALYSIS AND MATCH PREVIEW
Midtjylland will be confident of making it to the group stage of the Europa league in front of the home crowd later this evening. The first leg played at AEK Arena in Larnaca offered a real drama with the Cypriot side coming out victorious thanks to the match winner from the substitute Ioannis Pittas in the first minute of the stoppage time. It has been an open match full of goal scoring chances on both ends, just as we expected.
The Norwegian striker Alexander Sorloth was the most dangerous man in Midtjylland’s shirt as he bagged a brace to leave his team in the toe. The Danes slipped up at the last obstacle in the last term of the competition and they have a fantastic opportunity to make it count this time as the minimum win leads them into the group stage of the competition.
Jess Thorup’s men climbed up to the second position in Superligaen standings after back-to-back wins over Nordsjaelland and OB and they will come into the rematch with Apollon in high spirits.
Apollon are no mug either as seen from the first leg. They have snatched a confidence-boots 1-2 victory in the Super Cup final against 1. Division winners APOEL last week. But this is expected to be a tougher task for the Cypriots as Midtjylland have never been defeated at home in their last 8 matches.
One thing we can be confident of backing here is goals and over 2.5 goals seems to be the safe pick. Five of the last six home matches Midtjylland played saw three or more goals, while the same scenario happened in four of the last five games Apollon played in all competitions.
