Sunderland continues their fight for a direct promotion to the Championship, but as a result of three consecutive draws, they are now six points behind Barnsley, however they’ve played one game less than their rivals. Home side suffered just two defeats this season, but they split points with their rivals 14 times so far. The host have been clinical in front of the oppositions’ goal, while their defense is doing a pretty good job. Sunderland still haven’t lost at home, but they’ve allowed eight points to their visitors.
Gillingham on the other hand are struggling against the relegation with just three points ahead of the red line. They managed to break their winless streak and snatch three important points against Scunthorpe United at home during the weekend. A repeat of that will be a big ask for a side who have lost five of the previous eight games prior to thw win. Although the visitors are doing very well in the front, their poor defending quite often brought them into the trouble.
Sunderland are the absolute favourite here considering all stats and quality difference as they offered lots more at both ends of the pitch than their defensively weak opponents.
