Greek Champions AEK managed to secure a very good advantage in the first leg match as they celebrated a 2-1 victory. Now, They have the chance to get their place in the Champions League group stage and they put themselves into commanding position. Marinos Ouzounidis’ side had a very tough challenge in the previous round, but they managed to knock out Celtic.They started their domestic title defense in a fine way during as they cruised to a 2-0 win over PAS Giannina. Originally the host were not know for scoring a huge numbers of goals but they’ve been very efficient recently, scoring at least 2 goals in all but one of their last 5 games in all competitions.
FC Vidi are one of the biggest surprises so far in the qualifiers as they have already successfully passed three steps. After beating Dudelange in the opening round, the visitors eliminated Ludogorets and Malmo. However, they are in a tough position ahead of the second leg match as they need to score at least twice if they want to continue their mission in the top quality continental cup. Also, it must be said that the Hungarian Champions have only actually won 1 of their last 5 matches in all competitions and haven’t made the most convincing of starts to their title defense in Hungary.
Considering how Aek eliminated Celtic who are level above Vidi, we just have to give it to them to ease past the Hungarians once again.
