FC Emmen made a perfect start to the season in their opening game thanks to an inspirational first half performance at Ado Den Haag. They had the double lead thanks to goals from Bijl and Jansen from the penalty kick. They are expected to be in high spirit but it’s not likely we’ll see another upset as they entertain top 3 candidate AZ Alkmaar.
The Emmen faithful wont get too carried away following that surprise win and neither will the pundits, as a difficult season is still the prognosis for Emmen, but they have already showed they aren’t here to make up the numbers.
AZ Alkmaar had a great opening of the new Eredivisie season as the team completely outplayed NAC Breda with a 5:0 result last Sunday afternoon. They dominated the game completely, from first till the last minute and actually created even more chances than what the final result says.
The side already played Europa League matches against Kairat Almaty and got excluded, but no doubt that more of competitive matches early in the season did well for them despite the exclusion. Ambitions are high once again after the team ended up third last season in the league.
