Brazil could not hold on to their early cushion lead provided by a beautifully-taken curved shot from range from Barcelona’s star Coutinho in their opening game of the tournament. They only showed the will to clinch the victory in the final five minutes of the game as they clearly lacked in cutting edge ever since the aforementioned striker from Coutinho. Such approach was punished five minutes into the second half when Steven Zuber headed the ball home.
They have one of the most lethal attacking forces in the world right now, and they know that Costa Rica’s defensive ability isn’t quite on the same level as Switzerland’s. So they will be feeling confident of getting things right this time.
Costa Rican players will be more worried as they know the Brzilian will come into this game with more motivation to get their title aspirations up and running after a sloppy start.
Costa Rica did not impress themselves, failing to do much against a determined Serbia side in their first game. The narrow 1-0 loss was their fourth in last five games overall and they have nothing to hope for ahead of the clash with one of the main contenders here in Saint Petersburg. They were completely devoid of ideas going forward against Serbia and couldn’t handle the growing talent of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, so they could really struggle against the stars of Brazil.
Brazil were in no danger of conceding in the opening game until the controversial goal from Zuber, so i believe they can score at least 2 goals and keep their net untouched here.
