ANALYSIS AND MATCH PREVIEW
Gennaro Gatusso’s first game in charge of Milan will see the Rossoneri travel to face Benevento in what should be a straightforward win for the former midfielder. Milan opted to part ways with Vincenzo Montella after the Diavolo stumbled to a frustrating 0-0 draw with Torino last weekend and this game will certainly be the perfect opportunity for the new manager to get his feet wet before more difficult challenges arise.
18 points off top spot, the Scudetto is already a foregone conclusion. Even a top four finish looks far out of reach, especially with how competitive Juventus, Roma, Lazio, Inter, and Napoli have all been this term. They’re 11 points behind Roma but are facing a team who have lost all 14 of their games so far this season, which sets a rather unwanted record for any team in Europe’s top five leagues.
Milan have either won or lost all of their seven road fixtures so far, with three wins and four losses. It goes without saying that they’re expected to win here. All of their losses have been against teams ranked higher than them in the table whilst their wins have been against teams below them in the rankings.
As for Benevento, life doesn’t look like it’s going to get any easier for the debutants in their first ever season in Italian football’s top flight.
Benevento have scored in four out of their last five league games, but that being said, they have conceded at least two goals in their last five games. With Milan not having their defense fully sorted out yet, the hosts may be able to nick a goal but it’s hard to see the Rossoneri actually losing this one.
