ANALYSIS AND MATCH PREVIEW
Milan played two goalless draws, in two matches both against Very defensive Aek Athens. They are still leading in the Europa League group though, two points ahead of second-placed AEK, and even a draw against Austria Vienna should be enough to see them through to the last 32 of the competition, since it’s rather unlikely that AEK lose to Rijeka in Athens. Still, Milan need to improve, at all fronts, or else they risk seeing their Europa League season cut short, in February, and even getting left out of the Serie A positions that lead to continental football next season.
On the other hand, not even a draw in this match would be enough for Austria Vienna to retain their mathematical chances of finishing in the top-2. They are four points behind Milan, and two behind AEK. A single point would mean very little, if AEK beat Rijeka in Athens, getting them beyond Austria’s reach. In two weeks, the Austrian side will be hosting AEK, to whom they drew 2-2 in Athens. As long as the gap between them is up to three points, Austria will be in the game. Keeping in mind though that they have already gotten thrashed by Milan at home, 5-1, on the opening day of the group stage. It’s hard to imagine them improve that much as to get a positive result at San Siro. Last Friday they lost 3-2 at home to Admira. It’s interesting to note that their only win in their last eight official matches, was that 4-1 triumph at Rijeka, three weeks ago.
Prediction
All stats points to a Milan win here and considering non of Viena last 6 games has produce less than 2.5 goals, AC Milan win and over 2.5 goals is a nice shot here.
