ANALYSIS AND MATCH PREVIEW
Olympiacos will be looking to return to Champions League after missing the group stage last season for the first time since 2010/11. They were beaten in the third round last season, by the surprise pack from Israel Hapoel Beer Sheva.
They strenghtened the team bringing in Emenike, Ofoe, Milic, Kasami, Ben, Elabdelaui, Vukovic to add width to already strong team . From the guys left only Siovas is worth mentioning while others went on loan.
Olympiakos looked great in the first match vs Partizan and exposed the defense numerous times. Partizan players couldn`t cope with the pace of Ben and Emenike and I would say Olympiakos won on experience. They didn`t look as good at home where Partizan pressed them inside their box but they did enough.
Rijeka didn`t play particulary well against Salzburg. Only the first half in Salzburg they play proper defense and scored the only goal . The second half and in the match in Rijeka Salzburg dominated in possesion and run threw the midle of Rijeka`s defense quite easy. Rijeka were having problems catching the elusive Salzburg players and only with luck and the referee Rijeka passed.
Now Rijeka has bigger problems as they sold their best winger Ristovski who was key on the right side. Also Gavranovic is injured and all was followed by 2 losses to Osijek and Dinamo. Andrijasevic was the key midfield player last season and after he was sold Gorgon should have stepped in but he is the worst player on the field.
Olympiakos has to show quality as they certainly have it. They will press Rijeka from the start and I don`t see this ending good for the visitors
Rijeka are coming to Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium (Piraeus) a very hostile place to be for any away team and the only thing i think the Croats can do is avoid a heavy defeat against much better opposition like Olympiacos.
